Our Green (Sustainability) Story
A Wellness Center Initiative and Strategic Goal:
The Wellness Center is a sustainable facility that has active programs under way in all areas of sustainability management. We believe in meeting the needs of the present, without compromising the ability of the future generations to meet their needs.
Wellness Center Green Steps
Our Achievements to Date Include:
LEED green-building principles were followed in the facility's design and construction, included:
- Site location
- Stormwater management
- Erosion and sediment control
- When possible, suppliers were chosen based on commitment to using recycled materials in their production process
- We operate with a multi-zone lighting control software, in conjunction with occupancy sensors and photocell that provide lighting efficiencies
- HVAC systems were chosen to minimize energy usage
- Mechanical systems are controlled by building automation system that optimizes equipment efficiency
- Plumbing fixtures and fitting boast water-saving features
- Usage of Green Seal Certified custodial products
- Actively involved in the UND recycling program
- Installed additional shades to help reduced direct sunlight
- Participate in Recyclemania program
- Involved in organization and participate in UND Earth Day Activities
- Nike Re-use a shoe drop off location during the month of April in celebration of Earth Day.
Our Continuing Goals:
- Implement additional energy saving projects such as additional interior photocell controls to capture daylight harvesting opportunities
- Performing a comprehensive energy audit this winter in order to completely understand our energy saving opportunities in partnership with UND Facilities/Energy and Sustainability
- Weather based irrigation
- To compliment what is determined and to be outlined in the UND Presidential Campus Climate Commitment Plan (January 2011)
